About the Film
Though born in New York, Georgi M. Unkovski is Macedonian at heart and it shows. DJ Ahmet is rooted in the landscape, rhythms and contradictions of rural North Macedonia, where TikTok and rave culture are quietly reshaping lives still governed by arranged marriages and religious custom. Rather than staging a clash between old and new, Unkovski finds the comedy and warmth in their collision: sheep crashing a dance party, girls in traditional dress moving to electronic music, an imam trying to use a speaker system to broadcast the call to prayer.
