Synopsis
Alyssa is nineteen, restless, and full of ideas. Mehdi is twenty-three, shy, and quietly talented. In Tunis, where opportunities feel scarce and horizons feel close, the two best friends keep each other going. When Alyssa discovers an art competition in Djerba; five hundred kilometres away, she signs Mehdi up without asking. What follows is a road trip across Tunisia that neither of them planned for, and both of them needed.

Director’s statement
“Everyone has imagination, whatever their background.” — Amel Guellaty
With a tender yet clear-eyed gaze, Amel Guellaty adopts the form of the poetic road movie to capture the spirit of a Tunisian youth rarely represented on screen: lively, dreamy, resilient, far from clichés. The film makes a powerful case for a deep, selfless friendship between a girl and a boy, a universal bond that is under-represented in cinema despite how common it is in real life. Between desert landscapes and the shores of Djerba, between dreamlike animation and grounded realism, Where the Wind Comes From is an ode to freedom and to the power of imagination.
